Horse Trainer at Page Land & Cattle Co in Navajo County, AZ.
The Horse Trainer is responsible for training, conditioning, and caring for horses to develop and maintain desired behaviors for riding, harness work, security, performance, obedience, competition, entertainment, and assistance to individuals with disabilities. The position involves establishing trust and effective communication with horses through consistent handling, voice commands, and physical interaction to familiarize them with human contact and ensure they respond appropriately to instructions. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing training programs in accordance with established standards for shows, competitions, and other specialized activities; exercising, feeding, grooming, and handling horses to maintain their physical fitness and overall well-being; and, where required, training horses to carry pack loads or work as part of a pack team. The Horse Trainer also monitors horses' physical condition and behavior to identify signs of illness, injury, stress, or other health concerns requiring veterinary attention.
Additional duties include maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary stables, holding areas, training grounds, and performance facilities, as well as providing general care to support the horses' health, welfare, and readiness for their assigned purposes. The role requires patience, sound judgment, practical horsemanship skills, and a strong commitment to the humane treatment, safety, and well-being of horses.
All necessary tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no charge. In accordance with 655.20(k), workers are required to return worn-out tools, supplies, and equipment before replacements will be provided without charge or deposit.
The worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds while performing required activities. Termination: The employer may terminate the workers employment if the worker: 1) Fails to complete or refuses to carry out work as assigned; 2) Unexcused absences from work; 3) Fails to work in accordance with the terms of this clearance order; 4) Commits an act of misconduct; 5) Commits a violation of the laws of the United States, the State, or the local jurisdiction;
If a worker voluntarily abandons the job or is terminated by the employer for cause, the employer will notify the NPC and DHS. Providing notification in a timely manner (within 2 working days) will relieve the employer of the subsequent requirements to provide return transportation and subsistence fees and the guarantee. Abandonment will be deemed to begin after a worker fails to report for work at the regularly scheduled time for 5 consecutive working days without the consent of the employer. The employer will provide a written work contract in a language understood by the worker.
Work begins December 27, 2026 and ends May 31, 2027.
Pay is $18.01 per hour.
