DL Farms is steeped in history, occupying land continuously owned by the ancestors of Dave and Larkin Busby since 1865. This family-owned farm is located in south central Missouri, where they honor traditions while embracing responsible and sustainable farming methods.
DL Farms prides itself on its transparent agricultural practices. They do not use chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, or hormones. Instead, they focus on humane treatment, allowing their animals to thrive naturally in their environments.
Their 'salad bar' beef is raised on pasture, feeding on grass and natural forage in a way that mimics herbivore behaviors. DL Farms’ cattle are moved daily to fresh pasture, ensuring they are healthy and chemical-free, never fed antibiotics or artificial feeds.
Prompted by Larkin's adventurous spirit, DL Farms expanded into hog-raising. Their pigs enjoy the scrubby, brushy parts of the farm, feasting on acorns and garden scraps. This forage-based approach ensures their pork is rich in flavor and free from growth hormones or antibiotics.
DL Farms raises Cornish cross chickens in portable tractors, providing fresh air and room to roam. These chickens are moved daily to new grass, promoting exercise and a natural diet of bugs and greens.
Planting according to the seasons, DL Farms offers a variety of vegetables—from spring greens to summer favorites like sweet corn and tomatoes. They also experiment with unique crops such as Jerusalem artichokes and edamame.
Visitors are always welcome at DL Farms, encouraged to wear 'farmin' clothes. Whether it's chore time or harvest, guests can join in hands-on learning experiences and enjoy the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
While DL Farms doesn't ship, they offer purchases through local markets and special order arrangements. They feature prominently at the Phelps County Farmers Markets and have a winter market for pre-ordered pickups.
DL Farms hosts farm-to-table dinners and other events reflective of their commitment to community and local partnerships. Advanced reservations are typically required for these exclusive gatherings.
