Van Newkirk Herefords is a legacy of quality and tradition in the heart of Oshkosh, Nebraska, tracing back to 1892. Now under the experienced management of Joe and Kolby Van Newkirk, the ranch continues its commitment to excellence in Hereford cattle.
The ranch specializes in breeding Hereford cattle renowned for their length, thickness, and ease of fleshing. Van Newkirk's selection process is rooted in performance data, ensuring only the top-performing bulls and females are retained. They sell semen from their prestigious herd sires, focusing on performance and carcass traits.
Their annual bull sale features primarily two-year-old bulls, selectively bred for low-maintenance and feed-efficient traits. Currently, they are offering 90 purebred commercial Hereford heifers and 287 fancy F1 Baldy heifers, all meticulously vet checked for breeding soundness.
The Van Newkirk Herefords' practices include private treaty sales, annual bull sales, and remote bidding options. They utilize technology such as ultrasound for carcass data and engage in selective breeding for moderate birth weights. The ranch employs AI and embryo transfer techniques, collecting data from birth to slaughter to ensure the highest quality.
All their heifers undergo a complete shot program, are poured with Ivermectin, wormed with Safeguard, and were Bangs vaccinated. Van Newkirk emphasizes phenotype, udder quality, and disposition in their cattle.
Based in central Nebraska, Van Newkirk Herefords facilitates convenience for buyers by paying half the freight for groups of 40 or more to one central destination, making it easier to transport high-quality stock to your location.
Given their established history and deep commitment to innovative breeding technologies, Van Newkirk Herefords is a trusted name in cattle ranching, devoted to delivering premium Hereford cattle to their customers.
