I wish there was a no star rating. We have been taking lots of cattle and pigs there every year before Seth and Emily were owners. Once they took over it was good, but these last 3 years have been horrible. They have ran the place in the ground. The 4 hogs we took over was there for over 2 months. 4 head of beef was there for over a month and they would not answer any of our buyers. They kept postponing our other 10 head of beef. I had to make a trip over, which is 45 minutes one way, to get them to give me answers. They told me to let my hog and beef buyers know the meat would be ready to be picked up in 4 days. When our buyers started showing up they began telling them they never told me that. Some of the meat had to have been just packaged because it was not frozen at all. One buyer drove an hour and was told a sample of their meat had been taken by the state to be tested and they would have to wait for the state to release it. When they went back over to pick it up they asked to see the states test results. The test result paper they was shown was dated the week before their beef was even taken there. All those lies make our buyer scared to even eat it. They have had some of the Jr Fair sale hogs for over 4 months. I hate to see a butcher shop close, but that is exactly what needs to happen with them. It is a shame they keep the Shirer name on the business, some people doesn’t realize it is not Shirer owned.

I took a doe to Shirer's before Christmas to be processed. It's now nearly St. Patrick's Day, and I still have no deer meat from them. No call, no e-mail, no texts with any update on the progress. I have tried calling, but they never answer the phone. I've left voicemails, but no call back. I've left emails, but they've gone unanswered. A month ago I went down in person and was told the order would be finished soon and that the owner was behind on the orders. I was assured that the part of the order that was finished was in the freezer and that they'd call when the rest was done. I have yet to hear a word from Shirer's to say the order is complete. So many damning reviews online lately from customers who've had similar negative experiences with this new ownership. At this point I'm doubtful that the meat is any good, given the reports I've read.

If zero star was an option they would get it. Poor communication skills. After 7 weeks I finally got mym hogs back.....well some of it. Not one piece of bacon. Went back in and they knew that it was missing and still in the smoker and never said anything wasting a 3hr round trip. On top of that one of the hogs i took in was the biggest I've ever taken in and all three came back with hanging weights less than the smallest I've ever taken in. I have used them for hogs and a beef before this and both them orders was missing meats too. Poor business . Be aware

We have a small farm and this was our first time taking a pig to Shirer Brothers Meats. Overall all it was a great experience, fair price, nice looking product. I will post edits once we have tasted the pork, specifically what we got seasoned and cured.

My buddies take their Cattle to Shirers to get processed. We received our order today and we are very pleased with the results. Tried some as soon as we got home. We requested custom instructions on the ground beef and they did it perfect!

Google

I give this place a zero It took over two months to get half our meat and they have horrible communication skills we weighed our hogs before we loaded them on the trailer and also took hogs to another place with the same weight and shires hanging weight they gave me was not accurate for the pigs I took them. There is no way if that was the hanging weight that was our hogs.. we did not get all of our meat and that’s theft!!!!! When I called them out on this they really didn’t care and argued with me I know u stole from my two hogs we took, there is no way around it.. We have list of what all was suppose to be there and we got someone else’s hogs!!!! Do not take your pigs here!!!!!

Absolutely the worst "business" EVER! We dropped our deer off almost THREE MONTHS AGO!! Have stopped in twice to check on it as their phone has been disconnected for several months and all we have been given were excuses, which is probably more like lies. We even informed them about their phone and they claimed they didnt even know but that was over a month ago and still no working phone number. They do not return emails. There is literally no damn way to get ahold of these people unless we drive almost an hour one way to go in in person. This place use to be so great! Was worth the drive and the price but now, this "business" seems like more of a front for something else. There is no way in hell this is a legitimate business. Google maps needs to offer a negative star rating for consumers cause this place would get a -5 from us. DO NOT GO HERE. UPDATE: Finally got our deer jerky and sticks and it was unbelievably disgusting. It stunk so bad but per my husband's request, I did try a bite and couldn't swallow it because it tasted just like it smelled. Put it in the frig and next morning it was covered in mold. This place is definitely a front for something else and no one can convince me otherwise. If there were a poster for doing everything wrong in a business, this place would be it. Spare yourselves and just go somewhere else.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Never contacted us that our hog was ready for pick up. When we would try to call no one would answer ever and their voicemail was full so we couldn’t leave a message. We live 2 hours away and had to drive out here to see if our hog was ready. Wouldn’t recommend this business to anyone.

Had a hog done 3 months ago, and turned out great!! Packages were sealed perfectly. The bacon and sausage has to be the best we've ever had. I've got 2 beef there now, I know I'll have the same result. Great small family owned business. In these troubled times we need more places like this.

Google

I bring my cows here to be processed. They do a great job. Never had an issue with how they do the cuts. Very professional. I will gladly refer anyone to them.

Google

Picked up 1/2 a hog for my sister and 1/2 for myself. Mine was missing the loins and was 13# less than my sisters (same hang wt). Called to let them know. They never returned call back. Called the next week and was placed on hold 2 different times for over 20 mins only to have to call back later, and leave yet another voicemail (this has been ongoing for almost 3 weeks now). People make mistakes, however, the way they have handled this is unprofessional. I'd caution anyone when working with them.

Since my last post.....dropped off a deer 6 weeks ago. It is still not ready. They say it will be "ready by Friday" or "ready next week". Maybe new people are in charge and can't get it together. Something has drastically changed with their service. I am now skeptical of this business. Sad to see this poor outcome. Still waiting on our deer. 4 years ago... You won't find any nicer people to process your meat. The recipe for the deer stixs are the best. Family run business that is 2nd to none. You must give them a try if you haven't been there yet.

2 months after slaughter we finally got our whole hog while picking up our 2nd. Hams apparently cut into steaks, because who wouldn't want hamsteak instead of a half for the holidays. Horrible customer service, and got home to find we're missing ribs. Not the Shirer Bros. Of days past....

Google

Their Brats and Burgers are delicious!!

Google

We've been spoiled at our local farmer's market, now that we've discovered Shirer Bros. The pepper bacon is what first caught our attention. We had been buying it from the large 'K' chain store for years. Shirers is so much tastier and with far less fat/grease. Now, we swear by that. We also like their thin cut steaks. Those are great for a quick breakfast with eggs or thrown between 2 slices of hearty bread with Swiss (or my fav, havarti) and some fresh tomato slices, for lunch. Finally, the pre-formed, beef patties are perfect to keep in the ice box. We've cooked them both on our charcoal grill and on the stove. Flavorful! Will have to find a way to reach them at their home base, once the fm is over for the season. I'm anticipating having to buy a month's worth of meat, just to make the trip worthwhile.

Google

Had them cut up hogs and when we got them they skun one of them to the ribs so we did not get the 2 bacons. The sausage had no fat as nothing was left on. They were called but nothing could be done. My question is if they had processed that hog themselves, how would they have explained to the customer that there was no bacons??? They owe us 2 bacons!!

Google

Done, was great since I was 7 yrs old, now nothing to sell, nothing ready, just went tonight, more than 6 people in there, no meat to sell, not one person acknowledged I was even there, will go to Collins Meats, or Lacy's Meats

Always a great place to have meat processed. Fast and dependable service from a family owned business. They also have a small section of retail for people that wish to try their products.
