Baker Ranch is a testament to a rich agricultural heritage dating back to 1896 when Rex’s great-grandfather first homesteaded in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. The ranch's journey began with a focus on sheep, and though it shifted towards cattle over the years, today it proudly returns to its roots with specialty breeds of sheep.
Baker Ranch specializes in raising Old English Southdown Babydoll and Royal White hair sheep. Their lambing season begins in mid-February, with pickups scheduled from June to July. They offer a variety of livestock options to meet diverse customer preferences, including Royal White Commercial Starter Flock, breeding stock, and market lambs. The ranch emphasizes providing grass-fed lamb and registered breeding stock.
The ranch provides a suite of lamb products available for purchase right at the farm in Lava. Customers can buy individual packages featuring ground lamb, chops, steaks, and roasts. Reservations are currently open for 2026 whole lambs, which come with 45-50 lbs of meat packaged at Oxford Packing in Downey.
In addition to their meat products, Baker Ranch is known for its raspberry patch, which has been producing fresh berries since 1992. These are available at the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market. Their small batch jams and frozen berries are also sold year-round.
Purchases of individual lamb packages can be made directly at the ranch. Whole lamb orders require a reservation, and there is a nonrefundable deposit to secure livestock. The farm accepts cash, TAP capable cards, or VENMO. Note that onsite butchering is not permitted at the ranch.
