Five Rivers Cattle Feeding is the world's largest cattle feeding operation, focused on providing a sustainable beef product. The business emphasizes its commitment to employee welfare, sustainability, and community involvement while feeding cattle in proximity to processing facilities. They have a rich history in the cattle feeding industry, dating back to the 1920s.
I cannot comment as to what this place is like inside, but for miles downwind the air is nauseating. I have driven past numerous feed lots, but none of them ever smelled like Five Rivers. If you're in the town of Kersey 3½ miles west of this feed lot, I don't see how one could live there when the wind picks up. I was staying overnight in Kersey and went out for an evening stroll to build up an apetite. Lo, I experienced the reverse: I couldn't eat if I tried after that. As a note: I think I may just go vegetarian the duration of my time in Kersey, at the very least, if not all of Colorado. This experience has definitely re-motivated me to actively avoid eating industrially-produced meats, eggs and dairy. I couldn't imagine what kind of conditions those steers are in, if I was so disgusted from 3+ miles away!
I enjoy eating meat just as much as the next person but the living conditions of these cows is absolutely heart breaking and I don’t know how people can stomach these animals being raised this way and supporting this business. I’m not sure how any of the workers can sleep at night knowing how poorly those livestock are cared for.
If I could leave negative stars I would. This type of facility should be illegal. The lack of humanity and care on display here is appalling. Shame on you. Be better. Do better.
Driving by it is absolute torture to my nostrils absolute misery for miles. Felt like I was going to get pink eye for just looking.
This place should be shut down immediately. You can tell the livestock are stressed out and live in deplorable conditions. I eat meat only so no I'm not a vegetarian.. those poor cows man let them free!!
Heartbreaking to witness the cows who suffer living in such poor conditions.
Top notch facilities for loading or unloading cattle. No need to weigh in, proceed thru entrance and go east a 1/4 mile to unload chutes. Bump the chute and someone will be there pretty quick usually. They will ground weigh them. Loading is usually to the left as you enter.
Very nice ppl fast unloading cattle
A place like this clearly has zero care for the treatment of sentient beings. It is a monstrosity and should be illegal.
Nothing but mud and potholes back around to the pits. I don't know that it's ever been graded since I've been coming here.
The worst smell for miles and the conditions look absolutely deplorable. The owners and workers should be ashamed!
Generous portions of silage and flaked corn, perfect ranch ambiance, and super-low prices. Wait times as bad as three hours, though.
Place stinks so bad sometimes I wonder how the brown haze it creates doesn't get listed as a health hazard.
Looks and smells awful — conditions for those animals shouldn’t be legal.
This is insane to have almost 100,000 beef cattle on only about 400 acres!
Got unloaded fast they were very helpful and friendly
This is a place where all my steaks come from, why wouldn't I like it.
I deliver dirt here, nothing fancy, good folks to work with
They get me loaded and on my way fast...
A good and easy place to unload cows
