Bent Gate Farms

The quality and taste of the meat from Bent Gate Farms is top notch! I am so thankful to have such quality meat raised in a humane and sustainable way right in my community. The way this family raises the animals is with care and gratitude. The grass feed and pasture rotations (and all the other extra hard work big farms don’t bother with) makes a noticeable difference in flavor and tenderness. The fact that they are treated humanely right until slaughter means stress hormones are not in the meat giving a great flavor to the consumer. Having been on several farm tours, it is obvious the family cares about the way the animals are treated, the land is cared for, and are genuinely a wonderful family.

I’m in Seattle and I’ve kindof fallen in love with high quality grass-fed meat. The flavor is incredible and it’s way different from what I was used to. But at the places I can buy this stuff it’s insanely expensive. I found BentGate farms through a friend and it’s been super fun to learn more about butchering and all the options and how the farm is run and all of that, and how to buy high quality meat in larger quantities so it’s reasonably priced. I’m not a meat afficianado or anything so I didn’t really know what I was doing but everyone has been super nice and helpful and the whole process has been great. These are actual genuine people and it’s been wonderful getting to know them. The first stuff I bought was a bunch of pork and it was awesome. The bacon is in these huge thick slabs that are so beautiful and delicious it blew my mind and I was hooked. I love pork chops and roasts and that stuff was great but I’m not really into the taste of a big ol’ “ham”. But I got ham steaks anyway, which I had never had before, and they were so fantastic it changed my mind about ham. This was not the overly salty stuff I was used to, but a much deeper real flavor of ham that really is delicious. So then I bought a whole butchered goat. Goat is wonderful, it’s a lot like lamb. I had goat at a restaurant and I loved it but it’s hard to find in stores. I had never bought a whole butchered animal before but it was great – I talked to the butcher and he was a cool dude and very helpful, there’s recipes on the website, and the meat is absolutely fantastic. Every piece I pull out of the freezer I feel like I’m having a little adventure in learning how to cook different cuts and how I like to season it and everything. I’m serious about this, it’s actually been a really fun part of my life to learn more about all of this.

I have purchased meat from Bent Gate Farms for several years and we feel confident that it is raised humanity and of great quality. Whenever we have people over for a meal (pre COVID of course) we were always proud to tell people where it is from and our friends are always complimentary.

I made the best birthday present by just shopping in the "merch" section of BentGateFarms.com -- I gave my husband a really terrific hoodie and I stuffed the pockets with handmade soaps from the farm. Supporting local while getting the best quality products... two of my favorite things.
