We purchased a 1/4 cow and upon unpacking, we noticed several vacuum-sealed packages were not sealed properly, specifically 2 short ribs and 3 t-bones. We decided to thaw and cook them within the next two days, hoping they could still be used. Unfortunately, when opening the steaks it was immediately clear they were spoiled. The ribs didn’t smell as bad, but after slow cooking and tasting, they were also not edible. We reached out to John multiple times by email (including photos) to report the packaging issue and asked if the meat could be replaced or substituted. We received no reply—not even an acknowledgment of the concern. If you’re considering making a purchase here, I’d strongly recommend opening the large black trash bags the frozen meat is stored in before you had them payment. This is the first time we have had this issue buying beef from a farmer and are glad we didnt buy a 1/2 cow like we usually do.
I recently purchase a 1/4 beef from John Cox's Baseline Farm. I was delighted when I tasted the rib steak I had just grilled. The beef is delicious. John made the purchase easy and convenient. His butcher solicited my input and I received a great variety of cuts.
